Amobi Okugo is a former professional soccer player who competed in Major League Soccer and the USL Championship from 2010 to 2021. The Philadelphia Union selected him sixth overall in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft as a Generation adidas signing out of UCLA, and he made his professional debut at 19. He spent five seasons in Philadelphia, appearing in 117 league games as a defensive midfielder and center back, then played for Orlando City SC, Sporting Kansas City, the Portland Timbers, and Austin Bold FC, finishing with more than 200 appearances across all competitions.
At UCLA in 2009, Okugo was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and started all 20 games. He represented the United States at youth levels from U-14 through U-23. Okugo founded A Frugal Athlete, a financial education platform for athletes, and the Ok U Go Foundation, and Forbes named him to its 30 Under 30 list in the sports category for 2021.
Okugo grew up in Sacramento, California, the son of Nigerian immigrants, and now works as a corporate entrepreneur at the intersection of sports, business, and social impact, focusing on strategic partnerships, project management, and go-to-market marketing.
